Mrs Tan is a resident who has early stage dementia. The staff state that Mrs Tan has to be restrained or she takes other residents belongings and is sometimes aggressive to other residents and staff. Her behaviour has caused anger and one incident of physical assault has been documented. Mrs Tan’s family have made a complaint to you that they are very unhappy that she is restrained because she does not seem to have any difficulty walking and they found that she was incontinent when they came to visit that day. You take your concerns about routine restraining of residents to the nurse manager who decides to call a staff meeting regarding the use of restraints.
