Ba re e ne re (Lineo Segoete and Zachary Rosen, representing the Maseru Working Group) seeks to enrich the lives of the Basotho people by promoting initiatives that support increased literacy, encourage creative writing and aid artistic exchange between creatives in Lesotho, Basotho outside of Lesotho and creatives from other cultures. Ba re e ne re’s flagship project is a Literature Festival, first held 2011. It is complemented by a series of activities throughout the year that include a book club, writing competitions, an innovative Sesotho dictionary project, a video poetry series featuring Basotho poets and publishing of flash-fiction stories online. www.bareenere.com.

Under the aegis of the Another Roadmap Africa Cluster, Lineo Segoete, Director of Ba re e ne re wishes to investigate the long-term impact of religious colonial education on the Basotho’s understanding of and engagement with indigenous cultural practices.
