International meeting Vienna, August 2012

The last meeting of the preparatory phase took place in August 2012 in Vienna. It was co-hosted by the Institute for Art Education and the University for Applied Arts Vienna, inviting representatives from 16 international working groups to meet, discuss and finalise the framework of the project.

The second international meeting of Another Roadmap was hosted by Rubén Gaztambide-Fernández (Associate Professor, Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning) and his colleagues at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto (OISE) in February 2012, with fourteen participants including collaborators and representatives from partner organisations. The participants engaged in a discussion guided by the following questions:

At the kick-off meeting of the international research network “Another Roadmap” hosted by the Institute for Art Education (IAE) in Zürich in October 2011, participants discussed different approaches researching the UNESCO Roadmap for Arts Education and related neo-liberal policy discourses in arts and culture globally.

Reading the UNESCO Roadmap for Arts Education (Lisbon, 2006), a group of activists, academics and art educators recognised the urgency to establish Another Roadmap for Arts Education which does not take for granted the positing of creative education in relation to the expansion of a creative class, or a creative economy.
